Rev. Calvin Hopkins, M.Div.

"Pastor Cal", as he is affectionately known, is a native of Tampa, Florida. He is a graduate of Middleton High School in Tampa, Florida A&M University in Tallahassee, and Phillips School of Theology at the Interdenominational Theological Center in Atlanta, Georgia. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education and a Masters of Divinity.

Prior to transitioning to full-time ministry, Pastor Cal has been a successful football and basketball coach. He has also been a successful realtor, ultimately becoming the first African American to manage a major Century 21 office in Tampa during the 1980s.

In 1989, Pastor Cal answered the call to preach under the leadership of the Reverend H.C. Wilkes at Trinity CME Church in Miami. From the "Mother Church", as he refers to Trinity, he went on to pastor Gospel Truth in Pompano Beach, Florida; St. Peters in Jensen Beach; Stewart-Isom Memorial in St. Petersburg, Porter St. Paul in Northport, Alabama and from 2009 - 2022, he has served as pastor at "The Will" in Fort Lauderdale.

At the 2018 Annual Conference, Pastor Cal was named Presiding Elder of the newly formed South Florida District. He experienced immediate success at his new position, reporting numerical and spiritual growth to the District.

At the 2022 Annual Conference, under the leadership of newly elected Bishop Clarence K. Heath, Pastor Cal’s ministry has come full circle as he now pastors the church of his father in the ministry and the pulpit from which he preached his first sermon, the Trinity CME Church in Overtown Miami, Florida.

In 2019, Pastor Cal was widowed after having been married for 40 years to the former R&B and Disco Recording artist Jackie Moore. Together they have three adult children, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

After being widowed for four years, God has once again smiled on Pastor Cal by bringing him into relationship and on September 30, 2023, allowing him to wed Philadelphia native and longtime CME Denise Patterson. The new Mrs. Hopkins brings to the union an adult son and a commitment to her new ministry role as First Lady of Trinity CME Church of Miami as well as the South Florida District.

Pastor Cal is active in his community and is a member of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce, the NAACP and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. He has received numerous awards and recognition for his work as a coach, as a realtor and as a distinguished clergy leader.

In his spare time, if there is such a thing, Elder enjoys reading, running, working in real estate, and trying to make sense of American politics.

To God Be the Glory!
